§ 12-46. Abatement—By property owners.

  • (a)

    All owners of any lot or real property within the city limits are hereby required to remove garbage, rubbish, and other unsanitary and unsightly articles and things from their property, and to eliminate, fill up, or remove stagnant pools of water or any other unsanitary things, place or condition which might become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, flies and germs harmful to the community.

    (b)

    All owners of any lot or real property within the city limits that are one acre or less in size are hereby required to trim, mow, or cut weeds or grass in excess of six inches in height as needed to maintain the height below six inches.

    (c)

    All owners of any lot or real property within the city limits that are greater than one acre in size are hereby required to trim, mow, or cut weeds or grass in excess of six inches in height as needed to maintain the height below six inches for a distance of 50 feet around residences and buildings on the property and ten feet from any property line.

    (d)

    All owners of any lot or real property within the city limits that is unimproved and in its natural state are hereby required to trim, mow, or cut weeds or grass in excess of eight inches in height as needed to maintain the height below eight inches for at least 25 feet from any road or street.

    (e)

    All agricultural crops are exempt from height and distance restrictions contained herein, except that any such crops shall not be located within ten feet of any property line.
